Ranchi: Police in Doranda on Sunday found a decomposed body of a 46-year-old woman from inside a house at the Pragati Vihar locality of Dibdih area. The deceased has been identified as Swagata Kar, who was battling depression for the last couple of years.
Police said Kar’s sister, Shramita Ghosh, reached Ranchi on Saturday night and went to meet her sister on Sunday morning. When nobody answered the door even after two hours, she informed police who then broke the locks on the main door. When they entered the house, Kar’s body was seen hanging from the ceiling fan. Police said no one could actually say for how long the body had been hanging.
Speaking to TOI, Ghosh said: “My sister was a very brilliant student and was a university topper from an institute of alternative medicine and research but was battling depression for several years. We spoke to her last in December 2018. I couldn’t speak to her as her phone was always on switched-off mode.”
She added, “My sister did not get married and was living alone in our parents’ house for the last four years after my mother passed away..”
