Ranchi: RJD on Sunday took a dig at Palamu administration for allegedly refusing adequate ‘time and venue’ for Bihar’s former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav’s election rally in Palamu on Saturday.
Addressing media persons in Ranchi on Sunday, RJD state chief Gautam Sagar Rana said a delegation of his party will meet chief electoral officer (CEO) of the state on Tuesday to register their protest against what he termed as an “unjustifiable action by the administration”.
Rana said the district administration fixed the landing site for Tejashwi’s helicopter about four kilometres from venue of public meeting, while allowing only two hours for the helicopter on the ground.
“As we had to travel through busy road to reach the election rally from the helipad we were delayed. When we requested the sadar sub-divisional magistrate Nand Kishore Gupta over phone for extension of helicopter’s time, he asked for a written request,” the RJD leader said.
“Due to the delay in getting the approval Tejashwi could not reach Ranchi on time to meet his father, RJD chief Lalu Prasad,” Rana added.
He further claimed that the administration allotted helipad at housing colony in Palamu saying that chief minister Raghubar Das’s chopper was scheduled to land at the aerodrome. “As far as I know there is enough space for four to five helicopters to land at the Palamu airstrip. The administration seemingly acted on the direction of BJP in the episode,” he stated.
Rana said the administration even turned down the party’s request to allow the venue of public rally near the helipad by citing security reasons.
Tejashwi had also raised similar issues before the media persons at Ranchi on Saturday when he was denied permission to meet his father at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, where the latter is undergoing treatment.
As reported, Palamu deputy commissioner Santanu Kumar Agrahari has said that RJD’s request for extension of helicopter stay on the ground was made suddenly. “The permission was provided after completion of procedures,” he stated.
