Chandrapur/Gadchiroli: In an embarrassment for Union minister Hansraj Ahir, BJP candidate from Chandrapur, the party national president Amit Shah backed out from his rally scheduled on Sunday at the last minute.
Shah’s campaign rally at Gadchiroli was also cancelled.
A large crowd had gathered at the meeting venue. However, despite cancellation of Shah’s tour, BJP leaders on the dais withheld the information from the public. After the rally began and local leaders started addressing the crowd, the mob became restive as there were no signs of Shah arriving. After over an hour, uneasy visitors started walking out of the rally venue gradually.
In the absence of Shah, all leaders on the dais including that of BJP, Shiv Sena, RPI (A) and even those belonging to Kunbi community took turn to address the gathering. Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar came to venue after over an hour and addressed the gathering seeking votes for Ahir.
People, who had come from distant corners of the district, turned impatient and were disheartened on Shah’s no show.
