A 33-year-old man was bludgeoned to death using a brick, near Vakkom, late Saturday.
One person was arrested by the Kadakkavoor police in connection with the murder.
The deceased was identified as Binu alias Khamsan of Writer Villa, Vakkom. He was allegedly murdered by Santhosh Kumar, 39, of Keezhattingal, during an altercation that broke out among the duo during a festival at the Kannamangalam Sree Vishnu Temple by around 11.30 p.m.
Despite being rushed to a hospital nearby, Binu succumbed to his head injuries.
According to Kadakkavoor station house officer Shereef S., the crime was borne out of a long-running enmity that existed among the accused and the victim. While both were history-sheeters who were involved in various criminal cases including murder attempt and drug smuggling, they relationship turned sour after Binu attempted to murder Santhosh in 2008.
While Santhosh had barely survived the attack, he had been been on the lookout for Binu to exact revenge, the officer said.
The accused will be produced before the court on Monday.
