The former chairman of the Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority (KUDA) Mohammad Asgar Chulbul, who was a close aide of the former Minister late Qamarul Islam, was allegedly attacked with lethal weapons by a group of Congress workers at his residence in Roza locality in the city during the early hours of Sunday.
According to the police, a group of supporters of Kalaburagi North MLA Kaneez Fatima barged into the house of Mr. Chulbul at around 2 a.m., when he reached home after attending a late night election meeting, and picked on him, after damaging furniture, gadgets and other items. It also damaged his vehicle.
Mr. Chulbul has, in a complaint, said that the attack took place at the instance of Ms. Fatima. A gang led by the legislator’s adopted son and her relatives attacked his residence and assaulted him, he has said. Mr. Chulbul is said to have been sidelined by the group after the death of the leader, as he opposed Ms. Fatima’s candidature during the Assembly election while expressing the desire to contest the seat himself.
