GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA – Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas is now the only five-star hotel in Tamarindo. The wellness-centered boutique hotel was recently recognized as the first five-star hotel in the area by the Costa Rica Tourism Institute, the nation’s official tourism organization.

“We are honored to set an example for Tamarindo tourism as the first five-star hotel in the area,” said Federico Pilurzu, general manager at Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas. “This milestone achievement honors our commitment to leading the way for luxury wellness while maintaining the classic Costa Rican green lifestyle.”

With its exciting new status, Cala Luna is also one of the only five-star hotels in the province of Guanacaste, especially within independently run hotels. Founded with the intent to blend world-class accommodations, holistic wellness and forward-thinking sustainability, the hotel counts unique features like farm-to-table cuisine, solar power and thriving biodiversity as contributors to its five-star rank.

Family-owned Cala Luna has implemented revolutionary practices in its initiative to meet Costa Rica’s goal of carbon neutrality by the end of the decade, currently undergoing a mass solar panel installation estimated to majorly offset the hotel’s energy usage. In addition to its five-star recognition, Cala Luna’s other recent accolades include being named Boutique & Lifestyle Leaders Association’s Best Boutique Hotel of 2019 and being ranked as one of TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Hotels in Central America.
