Lalu Prasad being treated inhumanly in Ranchi hospital: RJD

PATNA: A day after leader of opposition in Bihar assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was denied permission to meet his incarcerated father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad at RIMS in Ranchi, party national vice-president Shivanand Tiwari on Sunday alleged that Lalu was being meted out inhuman treatment in the hospital at the behest of senior NDA functionaries in Jharkhand and Bihar.

Shivanand, a former Rajya Sabha member, accused the officials of the Jharkhand government of playing in the hands of the chief minister of Jharkhand. “The medical tests, such as Eco and x-ray, have not been conducted on Laluji even after two weeks of recommendation of the doctor attending on him,” he said, adding it smacked of a large conspiracy.

To a query, Shivanand said Lalu’s ward was searched by the police soon after Bihar CM Nitish Kumar issued a statement in Patna that he (Lalu) had talked to Prashant Kishor of the JD(U) over the phone. “It seems that both PM Narendra Modi and Nitish are scared of Lalu due to his popularity,” he said.

Tiwari claimed that the people would give the NDA government at the Centre a befitting reply in the ensuing Lok Sabha election. “Janata sab dekh rahi hai aur samay pad jabab degi (People are watching every development and they will give a befitting reply at an appropriate time),” he added.

Lalu is at present undergoing treatment at RIMS. He was awarded sentence in the multi-crore fodder scam, which surfaced in undivided Bihar.

Taking a dig at the NDA leaders, Shivanand said the PM and Nitish were trying to woo the electorate by quoting the 15-year-rule of the RJD in the state. “Ye bhay dikhakar satta mein bane rahna chahte hain (They want to remain in power by recalling the 15-year rule of RJD),” Tiwari said.

He hailed the issues raised in the election manifesto released by the Congress. The Congress has promised to provide 4 lakh jobs within a year of coming to power, pay Rs 72,000 per year to people belonging to economically backward sections of society and fulfil 20 lakh vacancies in states.

The RJD leader claimed that the 1992 economic policy of the then Congress-led government at the Centre opened vistas for speedy economic growth in the country. “While the UPA believes in positive politics, the NDA, on the other hand, banks on negative politics,” Tiwari said.
