MUMBAI: National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) on Monday informed Bombay high court that it had received the approval of the expert appraisal committee of Union ministry of environment and forests for removal of mangroves in Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar districts for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project.
Advocate Pralhad Paranjape, counsel for HNSRCL, sought court permission to amend the petition to reflect the development.
NHSRCL had approached the court for permission to hack mangroves over 13 hectares. In March 2019, Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority had told the court that it had given its nod for cutting over 53,000 mangrove trees for the project.
The 508-km high speed rail corridor is expected to cut travel time from six-and-a-half hours to two-and-a-half hours. The high speed train has scheduled its first run on August 15, 2022.
The high court has scheduled the petition for further hearing after two weeks.
