The new Istanbul Airport, which cost around $8 billion to open, is said to be able to handle 90 million passengers a year. Authorities have plans to expand that capacity to 200 million. The new airport formally opened nearly six months ago, handling just a few flights per day, and had its full inauguration on April 6 afternoon.
