Pune: Three held for attacking traffic policeman

PUNE: The city police have arrested three men for attacking a havaldar Tirupati Linganna (46) from Wanowrie traffic police over a dispute of towing vehicles parked in no parking zone at Jhambulkar Chowk on Shivarkar Road on Sunday evening.

Vicky Raju Pardeshi (32) from Wanowrie was arrested on Sunday. His accomplices Vishal Solkar (25) and Gabbu Pardeshi (30) all from the same place were arrested on Monday.

Sub inspector Dinesh Gujar from Wanowrie police said, “Linganna and others started taking action against vehicles parked in a no parking zone from Fatimanagar and reached Jhambulkar Chowk and spotted a mophed parked in no parking. The policemen were in the process of towing the vehicle when its owner Vicky Pardeshi reached there and picked up a dispute with him and hurled abuses on him in a foul language.”

Gujar said, “Pardeshi in a fit of anger pulled out two buttons from the khaki uniform and damaged Linganna’s name plate, he caught hold of his collar and attacked him. When the policemen started video shooting his acts, Pardeshi snatched his phone and damaged it and broke the sim card and summoned four to five men in an autorikshaw who reached there and joined him in hurling abuses on the policeman.”

“Pardeshi and others started creating obstacles and prevented the cop from discharging his official duty. They also threatened him with dire consequences.

The situation threw vehicular traffic out of gear for sometime. Linganna contacted the city police control room and gave information of the incident and a beat marshal from the Wanowrie police rushed to the spot and took Pardeshi into custody while his accomplices sped away.”

“Linganna later registered a complaint of obstructing public servant from discharging duty and causing grevious hurt among other charges of the Indian Penal Code,” he added.
