Mercedes Launching A35L Sedan At Auto Shanghai, Alongside New GLE, EQC And More

Mercedes will unveil a China-only version of its A 35 4MATIC Sedan model at Auto Shanghai 2019 next week, alongside the new GLE, EQC, Concept GLB, AMG GT C, new B-Class and more.

The automaker’s press conference will kick off on April 16, which is when the Concept GLB will make its world debut. Meanwhile, the previously-mentioned GLE and EQC crossovers will make an appearance on Chinese soil for the very first time.

Mercedes A 35 L Sedan

While Mercedes doesn’t mention this long-wheelbase version by name in the press release, they do call it “another version of the A 35 4MATIC Saloon”, while also adding that it will be built exclusively for the Chinese market and that its “four-door three-box design combines the brand’s hallmark sportiness with lots of room.”

It’s safe to assume then that this will be the stretched-out version of the A-Class Sedan, only in A35 spec. This means that it will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 306 PS (301 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Also available will be a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a performance-oriented AWD system.

Mercedes Concept GLB

The Concept GLB will be a world premiere for the Stuttgart-based brand, and has already been teased through this singular image which depicts a stylish interior with a typical MBUX dual-screen setup.

It also has three air vents in the middle of the dashboard, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, electrically-adjustable front seats with a memory function and plenty more. Once in production form, the GLB will slot between the GLA and GLC crossovers, utilizing a wide range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, to go with two AMG versions in the GLB 35 and GLB 45.

Mercedes EQC

The EQC is the first-ever EQ brand model from Mercedes to be displayed in China. This electrified crossover can cover more than 450 km (279 miles) thanks to its 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric motors producing a combined output of 300 kW (402 HP / 407 PS) and 564 lb-ft (765 Nm) of torque.

Aside from the Bremen plant, Mercedes will also build the EQC at the Beijing Benz Automotive factory in China.

Mercedes GLE

The all-new GLE will make its China debut in Shanghai, boasting a wide range of innovations such as its 48-volt E-ACTIVE Body Control suspension system, but also its Active Stop-and-Go Assist system. The E-ACTIVE Body Control works alongside a newly-developed air suspension in order to control spring and damping forces individually for each wheel, thus reducing body roll, pitching and squat.

Inside, it features the automaker’s latest-gen MBUX system, as well as two large 12.3-inch screens as standard – to go with more room than in the previous-generation model.

Five more China premiers

Auto Shanghai 2019 will also host the all-new Mercedes B-Class, A-Class 4MATIC (including the long-wheel base version), Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster and the E 53 Coupe.
