Shunned by kin, couple ties knot in police station

Kanpur:The police helped a lover couple tie the nuptial knot in Shivrajpur police station premises of the district on Sunday. Sunil, 23, a resident of Gohlotan Purwa in Rasoolabad area of Kanpur Dehat and Preeti, 20, of Gauri Abhaypur village of Shivrajpur in the district were in a relationship for quite some time but their families didn’t approved of it.
Preeti on Friday ran away from her home and reached Panipat in Haryana, where Sunil works in a private firm.
“On Sunday, Sunil, however, returned to the district from Panipat and straight away went to Preeti’s house along with the latter and met her family and thereafter told them about their wedding plan. Preeti’s family allegedly misbehaved with Sunil, thrashed him and handed him to local police,” said local residents. Later, Sunil’s family also reached Shivrajpur police station to register a counter report. After Police later found that was found the duo were adults and wanted to get married. The police later arranged the wedding in the premises of the police station with the consent of both the families.
“The girl was missing from her home since Friday. Her parents had come to police station to get the report registered. On Sunday, Sunil returned home from Panipat with Preeti. Their wedding was arranged with the consent of their families on Sunday evening,” said SHO Shivrajpur Trideep Singh.
