Boy, 13, mom drown in Thirumurthy reservoir

Tirupur: A 13-year-old boy and his mother drowned in the Thirumurthy reservoir in Udumalpet taluk of the district on Sunday. The boy’s father and his aunt were admitted at the Udumalpet government hospital. Police identified the deceased as Sandeep and his mother Revathi, 35, of Karamadai in Coimbatore. “On Sunday, Sandeep, his mother along with 14 other relatives came to offer prayers at Amanalingeswarar temple on Thirumurthy hills. When they reached the Thirumurthy reservoir, Sandeep and his brother Sanjai Siddharth went to take bath, despite a ban,” a police officer said.
“When Sandeep struggled to swim, Sanjai called for help. Their mother Revathi entered the water to save Sandeep. Subsequently her husband Ranganathan and her sister Bharathi also jumped into water to save the duo. But all four struggled to stay afloat. Their relatives rescued them and took them to the hospital,” the officer said, adding, “Doctors at the hospital declared Sandeep and Revathi were brought dead.” tnn
