Mumbai: Loft collapse claims one life, injures another

The Kandivali police have registered a case of negligence under section 304 (A) and 338 of IPC against the contractor of who was looking after the project work.

One labourer was killed while another sustained injuries after a wooden loft collapsed at the construction site of a building in Kandivali (west) on Sunday. The work was being carried out under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority's (SRA) scheme. The Kandivali police have registered a case of negligence under section 304 (A) and 338 of IPC against the contractor of who was looking after the project work.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Ming (18). As per BMC's disaster control department, the labourer was declared death by a private hospital where he was admitted. The condition of Sumit Lakda (28), who was injured in the incident, is stable.

"We have booked the contractor of M/s Leela Infrastructures and other concerned people for negligence," said senior inspector Nitin Pondkule of Kandivali police station. "Labourers were on the wooden loft on Sunday morning when the whole wooden structure crashed down," said Kamlesh Yadav, corporator from an adjacent ward.
