The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the Centre and the State to file their counter affidavits in a public interest litigation petition which complained of sale of spurious bio-fertilisers in the market.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. S.Sundar observed that certain bio-fertilisers were being sold in the market without any description of their contents. Farmers could be victimised by these chemical-laced spurious bio-fertilisers, the court said and adjourned the hearing to April 22. The PIL petition was filed by M. Abdullah of Madurai.
