Budding artists throng The Hindu Young World painting contest

The enthusiastic participation of nearly 200 budding artists marked the The Hindu Young World painting competition held at SSVM School of Excellence here on Sunday.

The contest had two categories: Junior (for Classes IV, V and VI) and Senior (for Classes VII, VIII and IX). The topics were given separately on the spot before the contest began. For Junior category, the topics were ‘Stone Age’, ‘Save Water’ and ‘Me With My Favourite Cartoon Character’. For Senior category, ‘Music, Connecting People’, ‘Space Adventure’ and ‘Save the Girl Child’ were the topics. The contestants could choose one topic in their respective categories.

Duration of the competition was two hours – from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The works of art were evaluated by the judges S. Vikram Adithyan and N. Sureka.

In the Junior category, M. Nideeshwar from Liseux Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the first prize. Raaina and A. Yuvan, both from Delhi Public School, won the second and third prizes respectively.

The Senior category saw Sarvesh P. from Liseux Matriculation Higher Secondary School emerging as the winner. S. Naveena from Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the second prize and Aakash N. from Liseux Matriculation Higher Secondary School was placed third.

M. Gireesan, Managing Director, Sri Ayyappa Ghee was the chief guest and Manimekalai Mohan, Managing Trustee and Correspondent, SSVM Institutions, was the Guest of Honour. The guests distributed the special trophies and certificates to the winners. All the participants in the competition received a trophy, a certificate and a gift hamper.

The event was powered by Thyrocare. Venue partner was SSVM School of Excellence. Regional sponsors were Anaamalais Toyota and Sri Ayyappa Ghee. Gift partner was Roshan – The Bag Mall.
