Netflix on Monday (April 8) debuted an official trailer for the upcoming Beyonce film "Homecoming".

The full title of the documentary film is "Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce" and it is due to be released globally on April 17, 2019.

According to a Netflix press release the film offers "an intimate look at Beyonce's historic 2018 Coachella performance that paid homage to America's historically black colleges and universities".

"Interspersed with candid footage and interviews detailing the preparation and powerful intent behind her vision, Homecoming traces the emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement," Netflix said.

The trailer was released as Beyonce's sister Solange on Monday cancelled her performance at this year's Coachella due to "major production delays".

A tweet posted on the Californian music and arts festival's official Twitter page on Monday said: "Due to major production delays, Solange will unfortunately no longer be performing at this year's festival.

She sends her sincerest apologies, and looks forward to performing at Coachella in the future." (Production: Hanna Rantala)
