Members of the flying squad in the Nilgiris on Monday seized ₹ 17.11 lakh from a car, which was found following the Chief Minister’s convoy and then headed to Udhagamandalam town.
Flying squad officials seized the cash, prompting speculation that the money was from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to be distributed to people assembling to hear the CM’s campaign speech in Udhagamandalam.
However, members of the flying squad, later clarified that the money belonged to a private company in the Nilgiris, and it was being brought to the town to be deposited in a bank.
The officials said that the money would be returned to the company once they produced adequate documents.
