An inmate has been charged with murder following the death of his cellmate at a Western Sydney correctional facility.
Officers from Auburn Police Area Command were called to the Silverwater Corrections Complex, in western Sydney, about 4.45pm on Monday following the death of an inmate.
When police arrived at the facility, they were told a 39-year-old man was found unconscious in his cell, and despite the efforts of correctives officers and nurses, he was unable to be revived.

A crime scene was then established inside the facility.
Detectives from Auburn Police Area Command, assisted by the Corrective Services Investigation Unit, commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The reason surrounding the 39-year-old's death remains unclear, but it's alleged he may have been a protected prisoner at the time of his death, 2GB reported.
Following police inquiries, a 35-year-old male inmate, who was sharing a cell with the other man, was arrested and later charged with murder.
Corrective Services NSW confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday a 39-year-old inmate had died at the correctional facility.
'Corrective Services NSW deeply regrets the death of a 39-year-old-man at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre and extends its deepest sympathy to loved ones,' a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said.

She said Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police were investigating the incident.
'Every aspect of the incident, including management and placement of the inmates involved, response times and action, will be thoroughly reviewed and any necessary action will be swiftly taken.
'It would be premature to speculate on what led to the incident until all the facts are thoroughly investigated and reviewed,' the spokeswoman said.
The 35-year-old remains in custody and will appear via video link at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
