CHANDIGARH: Engineering students, who could not secure admission into Panjab University’s institute last year, have a reason to cheer. The joint academic and administrative committee (JAAC) of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Dr SSB UICET and PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur, has decided to introduce a migration entrance test.
Students, who have passed their BE first year from any engineering institute recognised by PU, including those affiliated to it, with aggregate of 60% and appeared for JEE in the previous session, will be eligible to apply for the entrance test. Even those who want to upgrade their stream can sit for the test.
“Students who want to switch to some other branch will get an opportunity to get their desired branch. Moreover, students from any engineering institute/university which is recognised by PU can appear for the test provided they have an aggregate of 60% in the first year and appeared for JEE before that,” said professor J K Goswami, faculty member, UIET, who had suggested the proposal in the JAAC.
The committee has recommended conducting the entrance test in May. The result will be declared by mid-June and the counselling is proposed to take place in the first week of July. The test will be called Panjab University Migration Entrance in Engineering Test (PUMEET). The test will consist of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ) to be attempted in 100 minutes. The final decision will be taken by the syndicate and senate, the governing bodies of the University.
Moreover, the committee has also recommended that the 50% of seats of UIET in BE (biotechnology) be filled through PU CET (UG) conducted by the university. The candidates with medical stream be allowed to apply for this course. However, the advertisement for the PU-CET (UG) is already released and the advertisement does not mention about the BE (biotechnology) course.
