HYDERABAD: A day after receiving a divorce notice from her husband, a 30-year-old woman committed suicide on Friday by jumping from the terrace of a nine-storey apartment in Hydernagar where her husband stays.
Following a complaint, the police on Saturday booked a case against the techie and his family.
Visibly disturbed over the divorce notice, K Meghna went to the apartment in the afternoon to talk to her husband Vinay Kumar.
“He wasn’t home at that time. Upset over this, she jumped from the top of the building at 3.30 pm,” said KPHB Colony inspector Laxmi Narayana. “Her father said she was disturbed and upset on receiving the notice,” the inspector said.
Meghna and Vinay got married in 2017. “Soon, Vinay and his uncle began abusing her verbally. They would harass her over petty issues,” said Narayana.
Unable to tolerate the harassment at the hands of her husband and in laws, Meghna went back to her parents house in Nizampet less than a year after her wedding.
Based on the complaint registered by Meghna’s father, the police filed a case of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide against Vinay and both his parents.
