PAU to introduce mechatronics in BTech course from July

Ludhiana: College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is going to start a course in BTech Mechanical Engineering with core subjects like mechatronics, robotics and automation, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing from July onwards.
Dean of the college Ashok Kumar said, “The department will have 15 equipped laboratories and eight faculty members. We are going to recruit three more faculty members who will teach automobiles, robotics and automation, and mechatronics.”
Latest techniques and application of robotics, usage of drones in agriculture have increased. With the coming of mechatronics— a combination of mechanical and electronics— students will get an exposure to build drones and come up with more innovations in robotics.
Sukhmeet Singh, head of department of mechanical engineering said, “Automation and robotics are used in almost every industry. It is being integrated with mechanical engineering. If students are acquainted with these skills, they will have an edge over others. There are advanced courses that give technological advantage, resultantly improving the productivity of any industry.”
Mechatronics, robotics and automation, computer-aided manufacturing and computer-aided design are also available as elective subjects in final year. In first semester of final year, students will be working on design of a machine and then in the second semester of final year, the students will move ahead with its direct application.
About course
The course will have 40 seats with fees of Rs 80,360 and Rs 50,800 in first and second semesters, respectively. The admission will be based on merit in JEE mains through counselling by Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala.
