A major brawl has broken out at a correction centre forcing police to use tear gas to break up the fight which led to two people rushed to hospital with puncture wounds.

The incident occurred at Long Bay Correctional Centre at Malabar, Sydney on Sunday afternoon. 

The centre, which houses minimum and maximum security inmates, is now under lockdown.

According to Seven News, nine ambulance crews were called to the scene. 

Five patients were treated, and two of them were rushed to hospital. 

One of them received puncture wounds from the brawl.
