The foremost question that you need to ask yourself is: Why do you want to be a CEO? It should not be to prove to anyone. Instead, you should have a desire and have a sound reason for that. If you are proud to be in HR and enjoy your role – excell. The essence is that if you want to go far, nurture people along the way.
This was stated by CEO of Birla Carbon Dr Santrupt Mishra while addressing The Ivy League: CEO Forum on the topic, ‘It is all about people: Attracting, nurturing and retaining talent’ held here on Friday. The event was organised by Mélange Curations.
Dr Santrupt Mishra, who is also an independent director on board of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, threw light on best HR practices. “You can’t be a mediocre HR professional and claim to be a successful CEO. Last but not the least, you must be ready to fail. You must know what you can leverage as your strengths and be willing to prepare yourself with specifics to get there. It is not that complex but at the same time it’s not easy,” he said.
