PERAMBALUR: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assured the electorate of Perambalur that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, if voted to power again in the upcoming general election, would strive to implement the long-pending demands in the constituency, along with the State government.
The Centre would lend whatever assistance required to execute projeccts for developing Perambalur, Mr. Rajnath Singh said during his campaign for AIADMK Perambalur Parliamentary Constituency candidate N.R. Sivpathi.
Assuring that steps would be taken to double the income of farmers of Perambalur by 2022, Mr. Rajnath Singh said the Centre would provide storage facility and develop agro-processing industry.
Mr. Rajnath said the Centre would also take steps to get the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) established in Perambalur, a long-pending demand. He also assured that Perambalur would get rail connectivity within three to four years, adding that survey was underway in this regard.
"I know very well all the problems of this area", the Minister said assuring cane growers that the Centre would ensure that they get the pending payments by discussing with the State government. The Centre would also work with the State government in implementing the Coleroon water project for Perambalur and ensure water for everyone.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen on Tamil Nadu's growth, Mr. Rajnath Singh said his party had allied with powerful AIADMK in taking forward the State in the path of development.
Making a comparison between the way of functioning of the Congress-headed UPA regime earlier and the present BJP-led NDA government, the Home Minister claimed that 98 % of the households have toilets under the NDA rule as compared to 40 % of houses during the UPA regime. The number of concrete houses constructed during the NDA regime exceeded one crore which was much higher than that of the UPA government.
The Direct Benefit Transfer system implemented by the Modi government had eliminated the role of middlemen with money being deposited directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries, he said, claiming that the savings under this system across the country was a whopping ₹ 1.10 lakh crore.
