He was carrying a reward of ₹50,000

A 31-year-old declared proclaimed offender, carrying a reward of ₹50,000, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in supplying drugs in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other States, the police said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said Rashid Khan alias Sajid from UP’s Bareilly was arrested from his house on Wednesday.

Huge consignment

In March 2016, the Crime Branch had arrested two members of a drug syndicate and a huge consignment was recovered from them.

During interrogation, they allegedly told the police that they had procured the drugs from Bareilly’s Rashid.

“Efforts were made to nab him but in vain. He was subsequently declared a proclaimed offender and then a reward of ₹50,000 was also announced on his arrest by Delhi police,” Mr. Yadav said.

Recently, information was received about the accused after which a team of officers went to his village, the police said.

“On Tuesday, the team in Bareilly received information that he would come to his house the next day. On Wednesday, he spotted on the terrace of his house from where he was nabbed,” Mr Yadav said.

‘Communal situation’

The police said that he was immediately brought to Delhi because of the “communal situation of the locality”. During interrogation, he allegedly told the police that the accused was running the drug trade for nearly four years and was supplying in Delhi and other States.
