A woman from Thorrur mandal who was staying in the US with her husband reportedly committed suicide following dowry-related harassment.

S. Sandhya got married to her relative, Srikanth, who works as a software engineer in Tennessee, about nine months ago, said the victim’s brother-in-law D. Anjaiah. Srikanth had not asked for dowry until about two months ago, he said.

Her parents agreed to give him some land in the village. However, Srikanth continued to harass her. In the wee hours of Saturday, the boy’s relatives called up an acquaintance in Thorrur and informed that Sandhya committed suicide by slitting her throat in bathroom, sources said.

The girl’s father, Mahender, who works as head constable at Narasimhulupet police station, tried to contact the boy and his parents who also live in the US, but in vain. They approached the Thorrur police station following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.
