Yavatmal: Two young farmers committed suicide in Ralegaon tehsil of Yavatmal in the two last days. Shreejit Vilasrao Hathe, 24, from Wadgaon village hanged himself on the night of Gudi Padwa, the Maharashtrian New Year day, on Saturday. Another farmer, Suresh Marotrao Bhoyar, 33, of Zadgaon village hanged himself to a tree on Sunday afternoon.
According to Hathe’s relatives, he owned four-acre agriculture land and was distressed due to crop failure. He leaves behind an old mother and an elder brother.

According to Kishore Tiwari, chairman of Vasantrao Naik Shetkari Swavalamban Mission, a state government agency, Hathe’s father too had committed suicide last year by jumping in to their farm well.

The Ralegaon police said it is premature to comment at the moment but investigation has started.

Bhoyar was the sole breadwinner of his family. He used to cultivate 11-acre land jointly owned by his aged parents Maroti, 72, and his wife Indubai. The family has taken Rs.1.2 lakh loan from a cooperative society, said sources.

Bhoyar was suffering from a chronic illness and was in distress due to unabated crop failure, they said.
