PUNE: The cybercrime cell of the city police arrested a man from Dehradun in Uttarakhand for making a hoax call to a hotel in Vimannagar claiming to be an operative of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) on March 6, following which the guests and staffers were evacuated from the facility.
A police team arrested the hoax caller, Chandramohansingh Suratsingh Suriyal (34) of Neshvilla Road in Dehradun. He is an MBA (market research) and ran a business in Dehradun.
Suriyal had borrowed Rs4.5 lakh a few years ago from his friend who stayed at Narhe. When his friend started demanding the cash, he decided to stage something extraordinary to get rid of the latter.
He told another friend to contact his buddy in Narhe and tell him that he would be in the city on March 6 and stay in the hotel in Vimannagar, the police said. However, Suriyal did not come to Pune.
The police said, “Suriyal downloaded an application on his cellphone, which allows to make virtual audio calls using multiple servers located anywhere in the world. He made the hoax call routing it through several servers. He wanted his Narhe friend to believe that he was in the city to return the money but had to leave because of the hoax call to the hotel.”
The cybercrime cell officials tracked down each server used by Suriyal and traced him.
