Kannauj: Dimple Yadav, daughter-in-law of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and wife of party national president Akhilesh Yadav, filed her nomination from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat on Saturday with senior SP and BSP leaders by her side.

Contesting as a SP-BSP combine candidate, Dimple has twice represented the seat — in 2012, when it was vacated by her husband and in 2014. The seat also happens to be the parliamentary constituency of Ram Manohar Lohia and Mulayam. Dimple, who reached the Collectorate riding the ‘Samajwadi Kranti Rath’ after taking part in a roadshow covering a distance of nearly 8 kms, was accompanied by her husband Akhilesh, actor-politician Jaya Bachchan, BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra and senior SP leaders Ram Gopal Yadav and Kiranmoy Nanda.

Dimple while talking to media said that not only the ‘mahagathbandhan’ will win Kannauj with a huge margin, but also bag maximum number of seats in the state. “We will not only retain Kannauj third time with a record margin, but will win a large number of seats across the state as there is an alliance between SP-BSP and RLD. BJP did not fulfil its promises and now to divert attention, it is using the armed forces to garner votes. It has faired poorly on each and every front,” said Dimple.

On being questioned over her earlier decision of not contesting Lok Sabha polls from Kannauj, she said, “As Akhilesh ji decided to contest from Azamgarh, on great demand of people I decided to contest from Kannauj.” When asked that Modi has termed ‘mahagathbandhan’ as ‘mahamilawat’, she said, “He (Narendra Modi) should take it in a positive way, as his party too is banking on alliances in many states, including UP.”

Hundreds of SP and BSP supporters jostled to catch a glimpse of their leaders commuting in the ‘Samajwadi Kranti Rath’ and shouted slogans like ‘Dimple Bhabhi tum sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain’.
