PANAJI: A bar and restaurant owner from Chimbel, Vishwamber Shirvaikar, and his father were attacked with alcohol bottles and choppers by four youth from Merces, after Shirvaikar stopped the accused from picking up a fight outside his bar.
The accused later abducted Shirvaikar with the intent to murder him, but abandoned the victim by the roadside on realising that the police were close on their heels.
After being rescued, Shirvaikar, in his complaint, said that at 8.30pm on Saturday, he stopped the accused from picking up a fight outside his restaurant at Gaulebhat, Chimbel. The four - Anar Vagmude, Chetan Vagmude, Vinayak Vagmude and Gaurish Fatarpekar - all residents of Merces, returned at around 9.15pm along with some others.
The victim said the gang then damaged the restaurant, and assaulted the complainant and his father with alcohol bottles and choppers. Shirvaikar was then abducted by forcing him to sit on a scooter. The accused were proceeding with the bar owner to an unknown place in order to kill him, as per the victim’s complaint.
Old Goa PI Jivba Dalvi said that the police received information of the incident and launched a combing operation, during which Shirvaikar was found thrown by the roadside by the accused.
Within the next two hours, the four accused were arrested for ‘abducting a person with intent to commit murder’ among other charges.
Investigation is in progress under the supervision of Dalvi, sub-divisional police officer Uttam Raut Dessai, and superintendent of police (North) Chandan Chaudary.
All the accused were produced before JMFC, Panaji, and remanded to seven days in police custody, Dalvi said.
