MUMBAI: Six railway employees, two of them senior officials, were nabbed for allegedly consuming liquor while travelling on Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express on Saturday. Also, they were travelling without the mandatory authority pass
While railway officials claimed that the identity of the six could not be immediately found out, sources said that one holds the rank of assistant commercial manager with Western Railway’s Mumbai division and the other is a vigilance inspector—both senior posts.
A flying squad of the railway vigilance apprehended the six and confiscated liquor bottles from the coach. According to sources in the Western Railway, a total penalty amount of Rs 5,750 was collected from them.
A senior official of Western Railway said that a formal case has been registered against the six. Consumption of alcohol on railway premises is a crime.
A passenger rights activist said that railways warn citizens to refrain from drinking while travelling. “What about these railway officials,” the activist said.
A WR spokesperson said strict action will be taken against those responsible.
