PANAJI: A 42-year-old Polish lady who was denied re-entry into India has petitioned the minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj to reunite her with her 11-year-old daughter in Goa.
A single mother, Marta Kotlarska has been stranded in Thailand after being refused reentry at Kempegowda international airport in Bengaluru on March 24, while returning from Sri Lanka where she went to exit, in order to avoid overstay. She later learnt she had been blacklisted by the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, for overstaying, but said she paid all the overstay fees early in 2018.
“My daughter is registered with the FRRO. Nobody informed us about any problem with our stay. I obtained a business visa, and a student visa for my daughter at the Indian Embassy in Warsaw in September 2018, and entered India the same month via Goa airport,” she told TOI.
Her daughter is currently staying with parents of her classmate in North Goa. “I’m in touch with her over WhatsApp. Not knowing when we will see each other is horrible,” she told TOI from Bangkok.
Kotlarska has urged Swaraj and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Twitter to request the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), foreign division, to treat her case as “priority” since a child is involved.
The Indian embassy in Warsaw on Saturday evening responded to her tweet saying that they have taken up the matter with authorities concerned and will revert.
In her communication to Swaraj, Kotlarska has added that her daughter has finally found peace and happiness in a school she loves in Goa, with a lot of friends.
Kotlarska, who worked as an administrative officer in the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi in 2015, has a background in cultural anthropology and design and is an award-winning photographer.
