Mumbai: A total of 28 clubs will be participating in the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organised 38th Victor D’Mello Memorial Invitational Rink Hockey Tournament 2019 at the Gymkhana’s floodlit tennis courts from today.
The five-a-side tournament will comprise of competition in three categories — Men Open (12 teams), Women and Veteran Men (both 8 teams each). All the matches promise to produce top quality performances.
This is a knockout tournament and each match will be played over a short 20-minute duration for women and veterans and 25-minute duration for men. All leading players, including internationals and national level players will be representing the leading teams from the city that will be seen in action during the five-day tournament.
Defending champions UK United, Ave Maria, Mumbai Customs, Sea View SC, Companeroes SC, Bombay Republicans, Union Bank of India, Coorg XI, Savio Club ‘A’, Savio Club ‘B’, Jablonski SC and India Rush SC are the teams that will feature in the Men’s Open category. Eight women and veteran teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
