PANCHKULA: The district police have booked a couple for duping a resident of Sector 16 on the pretext of selling him their restaurant

Rajbir Singh, who works with Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, alleged that Vinit Mahajan of Chawla Chicken Restaurant told him that he wanted to sell his restaurant for Rs 10 lakh.

The victim said he wanted to purchase the property, so he sold his car for Rs 3 lakh, added Rs 2 lakh from his pocket and paid Mahajan Rs 5 lakh as first installment. The accused then promised the victim to give the possession of his restaurant in January and took another Rs 2 lakh.

A few days after, Mahajan and his wife met Singh and told that they were not interested in selling the restaurant anymore. They said that they would return his money and gave him a cheque of Rs 4 lakh. When the victim tried to encash the cheque, it bounced.

When the victim approached the accused, he threatened Singh of filing a false case against him.
