AHMEDABAD: Crime branch sleuths on Friday booked three gun dealers who used to sell starter pistols —guns that do not fire anything out of the barrel. The dealers — Jayveer Gun House, Gujarat Bandook Bhandar and Hemant Gun House — were allegedly selling such starter pistols at more than Rs 50,000 per pistol.
Deputy commissioner of police Deepan Bhadran said it is the duty of the gun dealer to inform the customer that for such starter guns one needs a licence and without licence it is illegal. “Possession of any such weapon is also illegal because of the upcoming general election,” he added.
According to a complaint lodged by PSI Idrish Ghasura, on a tip-off, they intercepted one Shailendra Bhadoria and on checking, found a starter gun from him. During primary interrogation, it came to light that he had purchased the gun from Jayveer Gun House.
“The gun dealers used to sell the pistols to the customer showing them a government resolution. We found several starter guns on the premises of the sellers and booked them for selling it illegally,” said Bhadran.
Such guns are also used by small time criminals to terrorize their targets and extort money from them. “Most of the builders and land grabbers in sensitive areas like Juhapura keep such guns to either scare away people or to grab land plots,” said a senior retired police official.
