Nagpur: Over 80 citizens from different walks of life captured the beauty of Bharat Van on lens on Sunday morning.
In yet another effort to connect public with the Save Bharat Van campaign, residents of Bharat Nagar organized — ‘Save Bharat Van with a Snap’ — photography contest. Participants were divided in four categories: Under 12 years, above 13 years, women and professionals.
Participants reached the spot at 6.30am and for about three hours, captured varied hues of the mini-forest, owned by Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyalaya.
Every participant was asked to submit a maximum of three photographs. Children were permitted to click using mobile phones.
Since the MahaMetro, Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department have been planning to cut hundreds of age-old trees in Bharat Van for a proposed road, the citizens of Bharat Nagar have been campaigning against the move vehemently. Last week, they had organized a painting competition, the prizes of which were distributed on Sunday.
The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court is hearing a suo motu PIL based on a letter written by environmental activist Jaydeep Das which highlights the damage that the road will cause to the biodiversity habitat. The next hearing is scheduled on April 18.
