Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday continued his criticism of Trinamool Congress and its chief Mamata Banerjee from his election rally in Tripura, and thanked the people for not allowing TMC to gain ground in the State.

“People here are very matured. They have waited for a long time for BJP, but never gave space to TMC as an alternative to the Left,” Mr. Modi said in his speech at a rally in Udaipur, 55 km south of State capital Agartala.

He charged the TMC of destroying (West) Bengal in all spheres. The condition of the State is “miserable,” he claimed.

The PM’s rally was delayed by over an hour; before joining the rally, Mr. Modi offered puja at Tripureswari Temple.

Mr. Modi slammed the Congress and Left parties for their stance on development, corruption, internal security and cross-border terrorism. He said that the Opposition parties have come together to oppose “Chowkidar, who is working day and night for the country, its progress and strength.”

Criticising Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Modi said that Mr. Gandhi had forged “clandestine nexus with Left parties” which has been exposed from his decision to contest from Kerala. “Rahul Gandhi could have sought a seat from his ally ‘U-Trun Babu’ [Chandrababu Naidu] in Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Mr. Modi appealed people to vote for his party so as to ensure a same-party government in the State and Centre for “good running of double engine.” He assured massive development in the State through various projects.
