Singer-composer Vijay Prakash’s father, Vidwan L Ramasesha, breathed his last on Sunday in Mysuru. He was 72. A source, close the family, says, “The last rites will be performed on Tuesday, as family members are waiting for the arrival of Vijay Prakash, who is currently on a US tour.”
Vidwan Ramsesha was a Carnatic vocalist. He started performing at the age of 10, influenced by his father, the late L Lakshmipathi Bagavatha. He had stopped singing 15 years ago, owing to age-related illness. Known for his profound and mellifluous singing, he was popular for lending his voice, particularly to Bharatanatyam concerts. Apart from performing in India, Ramasesha had toured foreign countries too, during his 50-year illustrious career.
A member close to the family says, “Ramasesha was also called as junior Balamuralikrishna in music circles because, of his command over laya, literature and soulful singing.” Recognizing his contribution towards music, Ramasesha was conferred on awards like Gaana Kaala Kasthuri.
