AMBALA: Unidentified criminals allegedly robbed a man of Rs 35,000, his documents and a mobile phone in Rai Market area in Ambala on Thursday after offering him a cold drink laced with sedatives, police said.

Deepak Kumar, a resident of Dina Ki Mandi in Ambala Cantonment area lodged an FIR against the accused on Saturday.

“On April 4, at around 10.30am I left my home to deposit installments of LIC and to purchase some electronic items from Rai Market. I was carrying Rs 35,000 in cash, some documents and a mobile phone in my pocket. At around 11.15am, a youth asked me for directions to reach bus stand. While I was interacting with him, another youth came from behind and sprayed some liquid substance on me after which I felt dizziness,” Deepak stated in his complaint.

“I told the person that I am not feeling well. He then brought me a cold drink from a nearby shop and after drinking it, I fell unconcious. I could not recall how and where did those youths take me. When I gained consciousness, I came to know that I was at Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital. My brother Gauri told me that I was brought to hospital from Ambala Cantonment bus stand for treatment. Everything is gone from my pocket including cash, documents, and mobile,” Deepak stated.

On his complaint, police registered a case against unknown accused under Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit offence) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to start the investigation.
