Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari’s manifesto, released on Sunday, assures to transform Nagpur into an international level city with a slew of projects either already underway or planned. Though he had earlier announced his vision many a times to the local media, it was presented in detail in the manifesto, unveiled by guardian minister Chandrashekar Bawankule and others on Sunday, at a function skipped by Gadkari.
The manifesto underlined Gadkari’s vision to develop the city along international lines, and make it a hub of health care, education, logistics and other sectors in his next term from 2019-2024. Among the major projects include Metro railway’s second phase, including services to Katol, Wardha, Bhandara, and Nagbhid, world class health care facilities at upcoming AIIMS in Mihan, IT hub on the lines of Bangalore and Pune, and constructing Inter Modal Station (IMS) at Ajni by acquiring Central Jail and FDA land.

The manifesto also mentioned new flights to Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar and Ranchi, and new trains to Goa, Mumbai, and Rajasthan, with the Humsafar Express daily to Pune. It included some new ideas like starting Khasdaar Book Fair on the lines of highly successful sports and cultural festivals, Sansad Thali Yojana, and branding of city’s famous Saoji cuisine.

Gadkari also assured to expand and upgrade the railway station into a world class one, to demolish existing flyover in front of it, and lay an eight-lane road for smooth flow of traffic by acquiring adjacent land. He proposes to build four transportation zones on all four sides of the city, and parking plazas all over the city to address traffic congestion and parking woes.

Along with an open air amphitheatre on Nagpur University land, the minister also assured to construct a new auditorium like Suresh Bhat Hall for South and West Nagpur citizens. He mentioned his dream project of having a 50 metre tall musical fountain at Telangkhedi lake with light and sound show, and seating capacity of 4,000 persons. He will make efforts to construct international level sports complex with the help of Sports Authority of India (SAI) and set up a garment manufacturing zone.

“Under his leadership, we all have witnessed the massive transformation of Nagpur in just five years and we’re confident that he will bring more development in his next term. Currently, works of over Rs70,000 crore are underway in the city. The priority would be job generation and making city a hub for health care and education,” Bawankule said.

He was flanked by MP Ajay Sancheti, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, MLA Girish Vyas, mayor Nanda Jichkar, former mayor Pravin Datke and others.
