A 28-year-old woman delivered a baby boy while waiting at L.B. Nagar bus stop on Saturday afternoon after her check-up at Gandhi Hospital here.

GVK-EMRI 108 emergency medical technician, who reached the spot in about five-minutes, cut the umbilical cord, cleaned the baby, provided newborn care and took both mother and child to Government Area Hospital, Vanasthalipuram.

Ch. Narender Reddy, programme manager (Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy) of GVK-EMRI 108, said they received a call at around 1.05 p.m. about the delivery after which an ambulance was sent to the bus stop.

The woman, Mereamma, lives in Abdullapurpet mandal of Ranga Reddy district. It is learnt that doctors at the Area Hospital referred her to Gandhi Hospital for delivery since she was anaemic and the latter has Central Blood Bank. However, when she and her family members were returning from the hospital after check-up, she developed labour pain and delivered the baby. Both mother and newborn are safe, said Mr. Reddy
