629 receive degrees at IIM-K convocation

Women get higher pay than men at placements this year

Anchal, Priya Agarwal, and Akash Sehra of the postgraduate programme in management walked away with IIM-K gold medals for scholastic performances at the 21st convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, (IIM-K), on Saturday.

Murali Siva K.P. bagged the IIM-K gold medal for all-round performance while Nithin Kumar T.C.V. and Nisha K.R. bagged the gold medals for meritorious performance in the executive PG programmes on the Kozhikode and Kochi campuses of the institute respectively. A total of 629 students received their MBA degrees while seven were awarded their PhDs at the event.

D. Shivakumar, group executive president of the Aditya Birla Group, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, urged the students to make the right choices and learn from their mistakes. “Be self-aware and get good at analysing the environment,” he said.

Institute director Debashis Chatterjee said female students got higher pay than their male counterparts in this season’s final placements. Highlighting the change in the board of governors of the institute, incorporating six women, he said the institute was having an additional intake of 60 girls in next academic year.

Chairman of the board of governors A. Vellayan said that the IIM-K graduates were groomed for being entrepreneurs and agents of change.
