The Mehsana city unit of the Congress has written to the Election Commission seeking to direct district electoral officers to take action against BJP's state president for violation of the model code of conduct.
The unit in its complaint to the election commission said that the violation of the model code of conduct happened during the filing of nomination of the party's candidate Sharda Patel. It said that the party's state president Jitu Vaghani had been sitting beside Patel at the time of submission of nomination, wearing a scarf that had the BJP's party symbol on it.
The Congress in its complaint also attached two pictures of the BJP and Congress candidates filing their nomination as proof that the former had not brought in any party symbol into the office of the collector, the BJP had indeed violated the rule.
It further said that the Election Commission needed to analyse the CCTV footage of the entire incident to confirm what they have stated in the complaint. The complaint was filed by Mehsana city Congress chief Bhautik Bhatt.
