Coimbatore: Forest department staff rescued a spotted deer calf from a pack of wild dogs at Chinna Jambukandi near Anaikatti on Saturday.
Chinna Jambukandi residents were alerted by the panicked wails of the calf on Saturday morning and saw it enter the village from the forest border. Realizing that it was being chased by wild dogs, they immediately informed the forest department. “Forest department officials reached the spot within five minutes and took it to the Anaikatti Veterinary Hospital,” district forest officer D Venkatesh told TOI.
Veterinarians examined the scared animal and confirmed that there were no major injuries. “There were a few cuts and bruises on the deer, maybe suffered when it was escaping from the dogs. We managed to calm the animal down and gave it water. Once we ruled out any injury and realized the animal was fit enough to move around and survive, we released it into the forest by 11am,” the officer added. TNN
