LUCKNOW: After using smart watches to keep an eye on errant staffers, LMC will now use a new tool, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), to track trucks used for garbage collection. Installed in trucks on Saturday, the system caught three drivers skipping duty on the first day of its launch.
LMC officials said the three drivers were supposed to clean dustbins installed in Aashiana area.
However, the VTS showed their location in Chowk throughout the day.
When inquired, the drivers were not able to explain their actions. The municipal corporation deducted a day’s salary of all three truck drivers.
The system functions on the same lines as the GPS-enabled smart watches. It not only tracks the location of garbage trucks but also records the amount of time a truck driver spends in an area.
LMC’s control room monitors the system, which was first used Pune Municipal Corporation.
Municipal commissioner, Indramani Tripathi, said, “With such technology at hand, we are now able to detect loopholes. We are now preparing for an internal investigation in our department to check if some LMC officials were also involved.”
LMC paid around Rs 2 crore to a Bengaluru-based private company for the technology.
So far, LMC has installed the system in 400 vehicles, and is in the process of installing it in remaining 200 vehicles.
