A day after a press note attributed to a BJP leader purportedly opposing candidature of one of the two sons of late Manohar Parrikar for the Panaji assembly bypoll was circulated on social media, a complaint of forging the letter-head of the party was lodged with police Saturday.
In the note, Mhapsekar was quoted as saying that the ticket for the Panaji bypoll should not be given to Utpal Parrikar, the elder son of the late chief minister.
The note claimed that Mhapsekar was supporting candidature of former Panaji MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar.
The schedule for the byelection, which was necessitated due to death of sitting BJP MLA Manohar Parrikar on March 17, is yet to be announced.
"The note has been crated on a forged letterhead of the BJP's Panaji mandal with an intention to misuse my name and tarnish my reputation and position. The contents of the forged note are intended to create a feeling of discomfort and falsehood amongst the larger public," the complaint reads.
Panaji police inspector Sudesh Naik said the complaint has been referred to higher ups for further action.
Speculation about Parrikar's sons--Utpal and Abhijat--joining politics gained ground after they released a statement last month.
The statement said the brothers "will honour late Parrikar's life by continuing his legacy of service and dedication to the state and the nation".
