Ensure smooth poll, police officers told

Coimbatore: Special director general of police (law & order) Vijayakumar on Saturday conducted a meeting with the police officials of Coimbatore range, Coimbatore city and Tirupur city to review election preparedness.
Senior police officials from Coimbatore city, Tirupur city and Coimbatore range participated in the meeting.
Vijayakumar instructed police officials to identify the source of threat/intimidation, people likely to act in a prejudicial manner to the maintenance of law & order and take preventive and confidence building measures. He also asked the police officials to visit areas which are vulnerable and create confidence among the general public.
Vijayakumar also instructed them to identify the places prone to trouble and form adequate number of quick reaction teams to ensure smooth conduct of poll process and maintenance of public order.
Coimbatore range (Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur and Erode districts), Coimbatore city and Tirupur city have five parliamentary constituencies and 8,497 polling stations across 3,304 locations. Of this, 1,342 polling booths have been identified as vulnerable/critical polling stations based on certain parameters and past incidents. As many as 746 zonal mobile parties have been formed to cover the booth locations.
