Nagpur: On the last weekend before first phase of polls, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held rallies at different cities in eastern Vidarbha to shore up support for BJP and Shiv Sena candidates. Keeping his speech centred around increase in transparency, security issues and welfare schemes for the poor, Fadnavis asked people to vote for the NDA to ensure a stronger India.
At Dhamangaon, both Fadnavis and BJP candidate from Wardha Ramdas Tadas recounted the work done by their government in the last five years. Tadas said, “You all have seen the work I have done regarding roads and railway in our district. There was only one national highway in our region earlier, now there are nine. Nothing had been done for decades but ever since PM Narendra Modi took over, a lot of changes have taken place.”
Fadnavis said Vidarbha will go to polls in the first phase itself and he is confident of NDA’s performance here. “We have got a chance to open the innings and Tadas will be our opening batsman. I am confident that he won’t return without scoring a double century,” said Fadnavis.
The CM stressed importance of this particular poll and why people needed to act. “These are not local polls we are talking about. This poll is for the dignity of the country, safety of the country and development. You must gauge the importance of these elections,” he said.
He later headed to Washim to canvas for Shiv Sena candidate Bhavana Gawali. Here Fadnavis came down hard on the Congress for what he termed was failure to alleviate poverty. “Rahul Gandhi says he will finish off poverty. Similar statement was made by his great-grandfather, his grandmother, his father, then mother. Since they all failed, what special medicine do you (Rahul) have? These statements are being made just to fool people and seek votes,” said Fadnavis.
