The Forest Department with the help of residents from Chinna Jambukkandi tribal settlement rescued an injured spotted deer from the limits of Periyanaickenpalayam forest range near Anaikatti in Coimbatore on Saturday.
The female deer was found injured near the tribal settlement in the early hours of Saturday. Residents from the settlement who found the deer in weak state informed the Forest Department staff. With injuries in its neck and hind legs, the deer was unable to move steadily.
The Forest Department staff shifted the deer to the Government Veterinary Hospital at Anaikatti.
S. Suresh, Forest Range Officer of Coimbatore Forest Range (in-charge of Periyanaickenpalayam range), said that the deer had minor injuries which were treated by a Government veterinarian.
“The deer was injured in the attack of a pack of dogs. It was given antibiotics and other medications. The deer was released in the wild after its condition improved,” he said.
